Mainport conversion project
The Mainport Edge was originally built as an offshore supply vessel. After its construction, Mainport purchased the vessel to convert it into a survey vessel. For this purpose, internal and external design modifications were required, which were developed in close cooperation with Mainport. Hull penetrations were designed for a survey blister and a HIPAP, along with the integration of bulkheads for the HIPAP room and its outfitting.
Optimized deck design for versatility
Additional office spaces were designed and created on both the main deck and forecastle deck. Part of the original forecastle deck was removed to create space for an overside A-frame, while ensuring that the original deck crane remained intact. On the main deck, the integration of a large offshore crane and A-frame was assessed, and foundations were designed for the A-frame. Multifunctional beams were added to the deck, allowing for the installation of containers or winches. To facilitate the use of survey equipment over the sides of the vessel, an overside pole and boom arm were installed. Additionally, a grillage for an ROV spread was incorporated into the forecastle deck design.

The vessel’s plans and documents were updated to reflect the new design. Intact and damage stability were assessed, and new stability booklets were created.
As part of the stability assessment, an inclination test was conducted to determine the lightship weight and center of gravity. Due to increasing wind conditions expected in the afternoon, careful planning and prompt execution were crucial. Despite these challenges, the test was successfully completed, ensuring accurate measurements and updated stability booklet data, making the vessel safe for future operations.
