Bridging design and detail
For the basic design and engineering of a new fishing vessel, Damen Maaskant has been looking for an engineering partner that could transform the sales design into an engineering package that is ready for detail engineering.
Scope
The assignment contained the full basic design & engineering package including main construction, structural outfitting and arrangements, systems, diagrams and mechanical outfitting.
The scope of work also included the engineering project management at the shipyard to make sure that supplier information was fed to Saltwater engineering in the correct way and the information delivered by Saltwater Engineering contained the correct supplier information.
Also questions from the building yard could be addressed adequately as a middleman between suppliers, yard and engineering company.
Timeframe
For Saltwater, the project started half a year prior to contract signing with verification of the “sales” design by checks on the main marine subjects and general arrangement. The shipbuilding contract was signed in December 2022 between Damen Maaskant and Sanford. The engineering process lasted until October 2023.
In the period to the delivery of the vessel in December 2024, the final delivery documents were updated such as stability booklet and sounding tables and support was given for the preparations of the inclining test .
