Throwback: Knowledge Session on 3D Scanning in the Maritime Sector
On March 5, 2026, Saltwater Engineering brought together professionals from the maritime world for an interactive knowledge session on the application of 3D scanning. With experts from both execution and engineering, we explored how reliable 3D data is already making a difference today in efficiency, safety, and project control.
3D scanning is rapidly developing into an indispensable technology for refits, maintenance, design, and asset management. At Saltwater, we see daily how accurate measurement data leads to better engineering decisions, shorter lead times, and lower failure costs. During the session, Marcel Kuipers (Geomaat) and our own Lennart Karsijns (Structural Engineer) shared their practical experiences and demonstrated how 3D scans are being used in ongoing projects.
Data-driven maritime innovation
The focus was also on the next step: the role of 3D data in digitalization. Bram van den Boom (Techbinder) demonstrated how detailed survey data forms the basis for digital twins, lifecycle management, and remote monitoring. The closing remarks by Timon Jongkind (Duurzaamheidsfabriek) emphasized the opportunities for innovation and the value of regional cooperation to advance this technology.
At Saltwater Engineering, we aim to help the sector put data-driven working into practice. This knowledge session was an important step in sharing knowledge, pooling insights, and building the next generation of maritime projects together.
