At the beginning of 2011 Saltwater Engineering was awarded a contract by VanderPlas Shipbuilding to complete the Class Approval package for a 3100dwt multipurpose coaster. This approval package included the general construction plans, engine room arrangement, shaft line arrangement, fire integrity plans, longitudinal strength calculations and various other items required by Bureau Veritas.

VanderPlas Shipbuilding presented a conceptual design of the new vessel to Saltwater Engineering; which was the basis for the undertaken works. Using this conceptual design Saltwater proceeded to calculate the main scantlings of the vessel and subsequently determine the construction principles that will be used to build this vessel.

During the course of the project various outfitting items were integrated into the design of the vessel. This included items such as funnel (exhaust and ventilation), navigation masts (fore and aft), rudder arrangement, anchor/mooring arrangement and other vital equipment. Short communication lines with VanderPlas Shipbuilding and all relevant suppliers ensured a smooth engineering process. Currently the Class Approval has almost been completed and the detail engineering has been started.
