Muller Dordrecht contracted Saltwater Engineering to calculate the RAOs (Roll Amplitude Operators) for the Muller Barge 6619. The vessel will undertake the transport of two Offshore High Voltage Substations in upright position from Antwerp to the Thames Estuary.

In order to ensure a safe transport a motion analysis was completed for the barge to under a particular sea state to ensure that the accelerations of the Substations remain within the client specified parameters.
RAOs are effectively transfer functions used to determine the effect that a sea state will have upon the motion of a vessel through the water. Generation of extensive RAOs for specific loading conditions allows Saltwater to determine the accelerations exerted on a cargo in rough seas. RAOs are computed in tandem with the generation of a hydrodynamic database, which is a model of the effects of water pressure upon the ship's hull under a wide variety of flow conditions. Together, the RAOs and hydrodynamic database provide certain assurances about the behaviour of the vessel and therefore the reaction on the cargo.
