Blue Peter Racing Days Print
Tuesday, 20 November 2007 11:41

In October 2007 Saltwater Engineering has become the sponsor of the annual Blue Peter Racing Days for small flat-bottomed sailing vessels. To compete, the vessels needed to meet two main requirements, firstly the overall length is restricted to a maximum length of 15m and secondly the vessels are not to be constructed from fiberglass / plastics.

Start preparation

The event was held on the Grevelingen, Zuid-Holland, over a period of three days. The overall goal of the race was to achieve the highest mileage average without the usage of the vessels engine. In order to gain extra mileage the vessels had to complete various challenges such as mooring maneuvers under sail. These bonus stages were designed to test the skill of both crew and captain. After hoisting the Blue Peter the seven competing vessels started sailing the course and attempting to complete the challenges.
